Choose the right size Conex container for your needs and budget
Buyers often ask about standard sizes (like 10 ft, 20 ft, 40 ft, or 40 ft High Cube) and which size best fits their storage or project needs.
The right container size depends on what you plan to store or build and how much space you have on site. Here’s a quick guide to the most common options:
- 10-ft container – Best for small storage needs, tools, or tight spaces. Comparable to a small shed or walk-in closet. These 10ft units can be more expensive than a 20ft or even a 40ft due to limited inventory and also, the distance a 10ft unit may be from you could add costs (added transportation costs)
- 20-ft container – The most popular size. Ideal for household storage, job sites, or small projects. Holds about the contents of a 1–2 bedroom home. These are also the easiest to delivery into a tight area or a difficult, windy road since the delivery truck is shorter.
- 40-ft container – Great for large storage needs, equipment, or multiple rooms’ worth of belongings. Roughly equivalent to a 3–4 bedroom home. Keep in mind, if you are looking at used, and you have the space, a 40ft provides the best value – it is only a few hundred dollars more than a 20ft used but is twice the capacity.
- 40-ft High Cube – Same length as a 40-ft container but one foot taller, offering extra vertical space for stacking or conversion projects. High Cube is the most common size available in 40ft so these are usually only $100 or $200 more than a standard height 40ft unit.
If you’re unsure, a 20-ft container is often the safest starting point for most buyers. American Conex is also happy to help you choose based on what you’re storing, delivery space, and local regulations.
